How You Can Make The Automation Process Easier For Your Employees

Despite robotic technology making it easier than ever for humans and robots to work side-by-side, there is still a stigma around automation. Workers may feel threatened by the introduction of robots in the workplace. Follow these tips to make the process as easy and positive as possible for your workers!

1. Let them know ahead of time.

Communicate your intentions to your staff. Let them know what you plan to automate and why. In most cases, automation is used to fill gaps created by labour shortage issues or to increase the productivity of a production plant without replacing existing workers. Explain your reasoning to them and, therefore, avoid creating feelings of uncertainty around their job roles.

2. Involve your employees in the process.

Listen to any concerns they may raise about implementing automation. You can also provide them with opportunities to offer ideas and proposals. It is important to create a dialogue with your staff to ensure they feel that their feedback is valued.

3. Point out the positives.

Show your staff how robots will benefit them. Not only can robots be used as a tool to improve performance, but they can also be used to automate dull or dangerous tasks. Then, human workers can be reallocated to higher value, safer tasks.

4. Train your employees to work with robots.

This will be a valuable new skill for your staff and useful for their future career development.

5. Help them get familiar with the robots.

Get your employees to engage with robots in a positive way. For instance, you could even encourage them to give the robots names! This can help them feel more comfortable with the change.
